• Elegant pointed-toe design inspired by shoes made for performers in Pingju opera, a traditional Northern Chinese opera.

DESCRIPTION

The Heritage Theatre Flats in Green Lotus feature enchanting embroidery of the lotus flower with a luxurious satin finish. The pointed-toe shape is inspired by shoes worn by performers in Pingju opera, a traditional Northern Chinese opera. It adds a unique touch to both everyday and more special occasions. 

Using the embroidery and shoe-making methods of hsiu-hua-hsieh (繡花鞋) — embroidered flower shoes, the craftsman ensures the shoes are light, comfortable and attractive.

Worn today as ballet flats, the origin of the embroidered flower shoes can be traced back to traditional Chinese footwear before modernisation. Handcrafted in small batches using traditional techniques, each pair honours heritage while celebrating the graceful shape of the foot, much like a qipao celebrates the silhouette of the body.

These shoes were particularly popular in the 1950s-70s in Taiwan, worn by opera performers as well as fashionable ladies who paired them with a nice Cheongsam or Qipao. Our products are sourced directly from the shoemakers that specialise in this craft in Tainan City, the former capital of Taiwan, and are shipped directly to Melbourne.

MEASUREMENTS

We recommend measuring both the length and width of your feet and selecting your size based on our size chart. Please refer to our measuring guide to ensure an accurate measurement of your size.

• We recommend selecting your usual EU size.
• When choosing your size, please measure both the length and width of your feet using our guide, and ensure they are smaller than the “Internal Length” and “Internal Width” listed in the size chart.
• If you have wider feet or are between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more comfortable fit.
• Due to the wider top opening typical of ballet flats, the shoes may feel slightly loose. Adding an insole or wearing thicker socks can help achieve a more secure fit.
